Not particularly fun to play or engaging for that matter. His summons lack range and constantly have you repositioning them so they work again (And it's insulting that Shadow has infinite range on auto mode but will reset after a few meters on normal) Sometimes you'll be going for a setup but you step away a bit too much to dodge and now shadow's back to you not doing shit and then you have to reset the commands. He lacks any real combo potential and his combat boils down to using the few launcher options you have and then just abusing high damaging moves like Shadow's skewer and second combo. The nightmare summon isn't too useful and most often you'll only use it because sometimes he'll do a lot of burst damage when he spawns in (depends on animations). Basically every fight with V is the same no matter the situation, there's little room to experiment or be creative with his kit. His control scheme is convoluted as all fuck and his moveset still manages to feel restricted.
And he just kind of stays boring. Dante gains all his weapons and 6 slots on each side to use all of them or as little as you want, the new DT, and of course his already more difficult gameplay with the weapon switching and style switching, lots of room to experiment here. Nero has all his arms and his end game shit that gives him access to his devil bringer at all times, a new punch that keeps enemies midair if you so desire it, and more aerial movement. And then V just gets nothing. He starts simple and restricted and he just stays that way. And Vergil has- oh right.
Also his character was really fun in terms of writing but we're never seeing him again so that's a bummer :////
